Find out how to access and use an electronic database and develop a comfort level with the 47 databases that we offer 24/7 from any remote location with Internet connectivity.

Gain free access to online, subscription-based sources to include: indexes of historical newspaper articles from major publications such as The New York Times; online encyclopedias from recognized publishers; directories of hospitals and physicians; genealogical resources; and interactive language tutorials.

New databases offered remotely include: The Valueline Investment Survey: a comprehensive source of information and advice on approximately 1,700 stocks in 98 industries, the stock market, and the economy.Remote access to the business database is available to Tappan card-holders; EBSCO's Home Improvement Reference Center, which is designed to assist you with thousands of repairs in the areas of outdoor projects, electrical projects, remodeling projects, plumbing projects, wood projects, decorating projects and maintenance; and Auto Repair Center find the make/model/year of your vehicle from the site and begin to glean repair steps.

Learn a new language, download a report that details the health of your trusted financial institution, print ratings on a recently released vehicle, and find your ancestors all from one location from the comfort of any location you choose.

Internet and E-mail Classes



Internet classes are available to Tappan Library cardholders on an ongoing basis. Learn the anatomy of a Web address, how to use search engines and directories to find the information you seek, and sign-up for a Web-based e-mail account and begin managing your mail files. 5-week courses that cover the basics from the location of the Web address bar to sending e-mail messages are available to our patrons. Call the Reference Desk at 359-3877 to inquire about one-on-one and group training dates.


Microsoft Office Trainings


Looking to make the most out of your Microsoft Office software? Whether you are looking to sharpen your skills in: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access or, in all five software applications, our detailed hand-outs and skilled trainers can help you become a more confident user. We offer hand-outs and trainings on Office 2007 software as well as hand-outs on Office 2003. Please call the Reference Desk at 359-3877 to discuss your existing Microsoft Office skills and interest, so that we may tailor a program that best meets your needs.
