MONTHLY THEME - MARCH MADNESS
March Madness
While we're old told to beware the Ides of March, there are a number of events to look forward to in the third month of the year. Among them? Dr. Seuss' birthday, Women's History Month and St. Patrick's Day. During the course of March, we'll highlight these events and the materials the library has to offer for each occasion.
Dr. Seuss' Birthday
On March 2, 1094, Theodor Geisel was born. During the course of his 87 years he wrote some of the most famous children’s books. These books have been made into classic movies, some which are shown every year. Never heard of him? What if you were to learn that his middle name was Seuss? In March we celebrate the birth, life and works of Dr. Seuss. We also explore how his art inspired others to pay homage to him in a variety of ways.
Seussville , the website for all things Seussian. Learn about the man who created Whoville, The Grinch the mischievous Cat in the Hat. You’ll also find games galore along with an everything Seuss store.
Looking for a place to take a Seusscation? Try the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden. Located in Springfield, Massachusetts, the birth place of Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss’s step-daughter created the sculptures in the garden. The Memorial was created to honor the work of Dr. Seuss and to inspire those who visit the garden
Towards the end of his life, Dr. Seuss and his wife resided in La Jolla, California. Four years after his death the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) renamed their library the Geisel Library. They did so in recognition of both the Seuss’ contributions to the library and their dedication to improving literacy. Want to know what sort of Seuss materials reside at the USCD library?
