LIBRARY INTERNET ACCEPTABLE USE

Tappan Library's Internet Acceptable Use Policy
The Tappan Free Library makes the Internet available as part of its continuing effort to ensure that all members of the community have the right and means to free and open access to ideas and information which is fundamental to a democracy. The library affirms its traditional role in not censoring or monitoring use of its resources regardless of format.

Internet usage requirements
• If you are eligible for a Tappan library card, you will need your valid Tappan library card barcode to access the Internet. You may also use any valid RCLS card barcode. If you are a non resident or visitor you will need a valid identification (driver’s license) to use the Internet. We only offer limited usage to visitors and non residents.
• Children under the age of 9 must have a parent or guardian present to assist with Internet use and observe policy.
• Users between the ages of 10 and 17 must have consent from a parent or guardian to use our machines.
• No more than one person per machine may be on a computer at any single time, except when necessary for group research purposes. The Librarian on staff may remove such privilege if any member of the group is not complying with the Rules and Regulations of the Library.

Staff assistance
Librarians are available for assistance; however, patrons who require extra help or basic training are encouraged to seek that help by using online tutorials, video trainings or by participating in our structured scheduled basics classes offered by the Library staff. For those in need of more in-depth or personalized training we recommend you investigate formal education programs available within the community to fulfill your continuing education needs.

We fully expect our internet users to not:

VIOLATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW. USERS UNDERSTAND THAT INTERNET INFORMATION MAY CONTAIN BOTH WRITTEN AND PICTORIAL INFORMATION OFFENSIVE TO THEMSELVES OR OTHERS.
