Maybe you read biographies to get the dish on a favorite celebrity. But you can also read them to understand a person's conflict or to find someone who is going through the same problems you have. Ask an Adult Services Librarian to show you more lives at the library. Click on the description to put any of these books on hold.









Online Databases ...
The Tappan Library offers access to a variety of news resources that offer up-to-date articles on people (and places and things). To access any of these databases remotely, please visit our homepage at
http://www.taplib.org from your PC, Mac, or mobile Internet browser, and from the home page, click on Adult Services tab and then select Databases from the drop-down menu. If you need any assistance, please call the Library at 359-3877, and one of our trained librarians would be happy to walk you through the log-in and search process.

Proquest Platinum: This database offers a wide range of indexed magazines, and is a great resource for news on your person of interest.

Biography Resource Center: A comprehensive database of biographical information on more than one million people from throughout history, around the world, and across all disciplines and subject areas. It also includes periodical articles and images.

Web Sites of Interest
Biography.com: The companion site to A&E TV's popular series plus added content with photos, games, and full episodes. A search for your person will look at the full text of every article to find you something of relevance. A wide variety of profiles from Barack Obama to Joan Rivers to Abraham Lincoln.

Biography Center: Biography-Center.com is a directory of other biographies on the web. They allow comments on the links they supply, as well as an opportunity for you to rate these bio's. The biographies are organized by category as well as alphabetically. The links to other biographies appear to be legitimate and the site is well-monitored.

It's also possible to put your person's name into a search at Google and search the myriad of sites that come up. Hints to check for the validity of the site is to see when it was last updated, and to look for educational institutions or periodicals like Time or Newsweek.
